Destruction and Reconstruction

Vision of a new Philharmonie

1944: The Philharmonie on Bernburger Strasse is destroyed in an air raid on January 30. The Philharmonie is left without a permanent venue and initially performs mainly in the Titania-Palast in Steglitz and then in the concert hall of the German Academy for Music in Charlottenburg.

1949-1953: The newly founded Society of Friends of the Berliner Philharmoniker e. V. calls for the reconstruction of the concert hall. Donations are raised with special stamps, several lotteries, and special concerts.
